Storyboarding

Keys

A 2D animated short film about a pickpocket who aspires to before as a Jazz pianist.I created the storyboards for the middle portion of the film (the rising action) referencing the original draft storyboards the director had made along with the script. I added creative and somewhat ambitious shots to accentuate specific points in the narrative.

Beneath the Hollow

A comedic 2D animated short where a hungry owlet discovers a mouse hole in the back of their hollow which leads to a whimsical mouse manor, chaos ensues.I made the finalised storyboards for the beginning segment of the story, referencing the original draft animatic the director had made along with the script. I added more exaggeration, visual gags and clarity where needed.

Evanescere

A personal project entailing a 2D animated short film where the protagonist of a children’s fantasy story notices the world disappearing
around her as her own memory fades with it.

Lifedrawing

a collection of life drawings, with different focuses.

Comics

We Were Never Meant To Be

A short comic where different paths in life pull two close friends
apart. Intending to play with the idea of heavenly ascension seen in xianxia genre stories and how that could break apart relationships in undesirable scenarios.
Everything aside from colouring and lettering was done traditionally using standard western comics techniques. Pencillings for each page is underneath the respective page.

Projects

Keys

A 2D animated short film where Keys, a sly pickpocket, arrives at a jazz bar to plunder its guests of their valuables. He is continuously distracted by the melody of the band, and the bouncer catches him red handed. In a high tempo chase Keys finds himself on stage with nothing left to do but give a triumphant performance.I worked as a storyboard artist, animator and compositor on this film.

Storyboarding

I created the storyboards for the middle portion of the film (the rising action) referencing the original draft storyboards the director had made along with the script. I added creative and somewhat ambitious shots to accentuate specific points in the narrative.

Animation

For animation all shots I worked on I saw all the way through from roughs to clean and coloured (aside from one). I kept my roughs loose and quick and fixed up model issues while drawing clean lineart. For the bird's eye view shot of Keys and the Bouncer moving through the crowd I completed the background elements of it as well due to the nature of the shot. All animation was done in Toon Boom Harmony. You can also see quite a few of the shots I worked on I also was the one to storyboard.

Rough animation I completed with the respective clean and coloured animation I completed adjacent:

Compositing

I also completed some compositing using Adobe After Effects.

Beneath the Hollow

A comedic 2D animated short where a hungry owlet discovers a mouse hole in the back of their hollow which leads to a whimsical mouse manor, chaos ensues.I worked as a storyboard artist, animator, background artist, and compositor on this film.

Storyboarding

I made the finalised storyboards for the beginning segment of the story, referencing the original draft animatic the director had made along with the script. I added more exaggeration, visual gags and clarity where needed.

Animation

I mostly worked as a rough animator for Beneath the Hollow, doing keys, breakdowns and inbetweens. All animation was completed in Toon Boom Harmony.A shot I saw the whole way through from roughs to clean and coloured animation:

Sequence 2 shot 17 rough
Sequence 2 shot 17 clean and coloured

Full roughs I completed:

Sequence 2 shot 16 rough
Sequence 2 shot 14 rough
Sequence 2 shot 12 rough
Sequence 2 shot 10 rough
Sequence 3 shot 12 rough

Roughs I retimed and added inbetweens to:

Sequence 1 shot 4 rough
Sequence 1 shot 13 rough

.
Additional shot I cleaned up and coloured (and also added a few extra inbetweens to):

Sequence 4 shot 10 clean and coloured

Background Art

For backgrounds I completed a few for both the nest and Mousion scenes. I drew them in Krita and took about 40min on each piece.

Compositing

For compositing I was only able to complete a few shots for the nest scene. We composited through Toon Boom Harmony utilising the same node tree set up for each shot.

Sequence 1 shot 8 composite
Sequence 1 shot 9 composite
Sequence 4 shot 12 composite

Catch It!

A comedic 2D/3D hybrid animated short film following a teenage girl as she rushes to catch a bus to school lest she be late and miss her crush's netball game by being placed into detention again. For this film I worked as an animator doing both rough animation and colours using Toon Boom Harmony.

Rough animation I completed (note some of these shots are parts of other shots and are timed to match the full shot thus appear blank at times):

Shots that I coloured, some masking techniques were used through nodes on the first one of these, animation by Joy Ferrentino, and Grace Rose:

I Can't Use This, Can You?

A stop-motion animated short wherein the impacts that humans have on Australian wildlife (with a focus on waste and over-consumption) are brought to attention through a humorous interview with a pair of koalas who hoard garbage.I worked as a character concept artist for this film.

I created designs for the side characters of the Interviewer (who only ever appears as hands) and Polly Parrot. I brought up the idea of the interviewer being an Australian White Ibis due to the species known association with rubbish. For Polly the director wanted to have the character be a parrot so I researched into which endangered species of Australian parrots were being most directly impacted by humans, choosing a Swift Parrot in the end. The characters were designed to be made out of clay in a more 2D format.

Clustomer Service

A 2D animated film with 3D environments, depicting the horrors of customer service through monsters and a bit of humour.I worked as an environment concept artist on this film.

I edited and upgraded an existing drafted design for the store in which the film takes place. I also mapped out the area around the building by adding a car park that is so nightmarish shots were added to the film to properly include it. The reference sheet was made for 3D modellers to use.
